TWO husband and wife players from Diss amassed some superb Waterford Crystal trophies at the Autumn Leaves Golf Classic, a two person team event, better ball Stableford, played over the three courses of Faithlegg, Waterford Castle and Tramore Golf Courses in Southern Ireland.

The competition attracted many overseas golfers from as far afield as America and Canada who together with a group of Diss Golf Club players along with many Irish golfers enjoyed the Irish golf courses and hospitality.

The presentation evening was hosted in the lovely fishing village of Dunmore East, Co Waterford and the presentation was made by Mr Mick Daly chairman of the Dunmore East Commerce and Tourist Board.

Outright winners at Tramore Golf Club were David and Celia Peason with 46 points. Outright winners at Faithlegg Golf Course were John and Lorna Burroughes 46 points. Second best overall for the whole three days were David and Celia Pearson 129 points.

Best overseas players for the whole tournament were John and Lorna Burroughes 127 points.

David Pearson said: “Although the conditions and courses were really quite hard both Celia and I played really well, with Celia finishing the second day at Tramore with a superb birdie on the 18th hole finishing the second day with 46 points, all the greens were superb, finely manicured, rolling straight and true, often perilously fast.”

John Burroughes said: “It was a joy to play all the courses. We especially enjoyed playing Faithlegg a championship course on the third day which we subsequently went on to win with 46 points.

“Our playing partners were from the Gower Peninsula in Wales were very encouraging, both Lorna and I played well together and Lorna went ahead at the first hole a tricky par four dogleg with a birdie, which started our day off well. All the Diss players were well looked after and we all played very well and had an enjoyable time.”
