Diss Town rounded of their Thurlow Nunn League campaign with a timid 2-0 home defeat to already promoted Coggleshall Town.

The visitors set about Diss from the start and almost took the lead before a home player had even touched the ball, with Darren Mills lifting the ball over from close range.

In the 25th minute Coggleshall centre forward Nnamdi Nwachkuku found himself one-on-one with Diss keeper George Macrea who pulled off a superb save. The writing was on the wall however and it wasn't long before Nwackuku created space for himself to turn and fire home from 18 yards.

Coggleshall continued to pile on the pressure and it was only a further finger-tip save from Macrea that kept the deficit to a single goal.

The home fans were hoping for a rousing second half to finish the season and an early second half move saw Hayden Pain and Adam Burroughs combine to set up teenager Harry Whayman with Diss's best chance of the match. The Diss winger however saw his shot well saved by Matt Walker.

The match seemed to be fizzling out when two moments of controversy set the game alight. First a coming-together between Pain and Coggleshall midfielder George Cocklin saw the latter shown a straight red.

This gave Diss hope of rescuing a point but within minutes the Coggleshall lead was doubled after the referee awarded a controversial penalty. A long ball was was chased by a Coggleshall striker and Town defender Mark Shadrack. Shadrack seemed to play the ball but the referee deemed him to have brought down the Coggleshall player first. The home fans were outraged as the spot-kick was converted.

In a season where the Tangerines had at one stage looked a decent bet for promotion a poor run of winter form saw them finish well off the pace in sixth place. Ross Potter and his management team will now be looking to strengthen the squad over the close season.

At the end of the match the winner of the Diss Town supporters vote for player of the season was announced, with striker Charlie Webb having secured the fans' vote.

Diss: Macrea, Norton-Hugman, Pain, Manning (c), Tipple, Shadrack, Mackie (Bray), Wright, Burroughs (Worthy), Hunsdon (Baxter), Whayman.
