SKI racer TJ Baldwin returned from the World Junior Championships in Garmisch, Germany bitterly disappointed with his overall performance.

The Tharston sportsman was the only GB competitor and wanted to show that he was one of the top Junior racers in the world and also improve his world rankings.

TJ's championships did not get off to a good start as he failed to complete the very tough men's World Cup Kandehar course just before the half way point.

TJ fared much better in the Super G, his best event. He put in a really decent performance to finish in 24th position. This was the best ever position in the Super G by a British male at these championships.

It was also TJ's 2nd best ever FIS world ranking points score, which will push him up the ranking list.

Things could have been so much better though, as TJ made a massive mistake just a few seconds from the end of his run which cost him a number of places. He said: 'I'm really gutted about it. I was just a little off line coming over the final jump and I took much more air than I should have nearly crashing out! I had to put my skis sideways on landing to make it round the control gate which scrubbed off all my speed. I knew it had been a good run until then, my line was perfect and I really nailed all the technical turns.

'My coach told me that I had lost about 1 second in time. That second would have put me well inside the top 10 which was my target in the Super G. At least I know that I can really mix it with the very best in the world.'

TJ then raced in the Giant Slalom and Slalom events. With much higher start numbers and having to ski through very rutted conditions he failed to complete the 2nd run in both races. 'It was really tough out there. I didn't ski my best in either race which was frustrating. A lot found it tough though, 10 of the top 15 ranked slalom skiers failed to finish.

'I've now got to focus on the rest of the season. I have another 25 or so races to go, including all the British Junior and Senior championships,' he added.
