DISS and Harleston started their build-up to the 2009/10 season with a local derby friendly match at Harleston on Tuesday, ending in a 6-1 win for the Tangerines.
It was the first time that the teams had met at this level for many years and it resulted in a sporting encounter full of attacking football.
Diss took the lead when the impressive Luke Catchpole ran at the home defence and played the ball into the path of Ben Soanes. He laid the ball back for Jason Hunt to control and shoot in from 10 yards.
Steve Bartram, one of a number of Harleston players who has played for a Diss team in the past, made fine saves to deny Hunt and Mark Shadrack before Harleston came close to an equaliser.
Jake Imre, who played for Norwich United last season, ran at the defence down the left and played the ball for Paul Trudgill to have his shot smothered at point-blank range by Matty Hill.
Diss took the game out of reach in the closing stages of the first half. Sam Bryant drew another fine save from Bartram a minute before Catchpole netted a low shot.
