Diss Town, buoyed by their third home win in a row, visit Godmanchester in Ridgeons League Division One on Saturday.

In Ridgeons Reserve League North, the Tangerines host their Norwich United counterparts.

Diss 1, Saffron Walden 0

AFTER suffering their first league defeat in six league games at Stowmarket the previous Tuesday, the Tangerines responded with a home win against a tough Saffron Walden side, writes Derek Nevitt.

Diss remain fourth in the table after this win with a superb strike by George Watts-Sturrock.

Walden's Bradley Green forced man-of-the-match Matt Webster to turn the ball away.

Neither side seemed to be able to force the issue as firstly Xavier Huckle's through ball to Peter Hooks was just intercepted by keeper Ronnie Yates before Diss skipper Mark Shadrack sliced his clearance straight to Mitchell Das who had a great chance with the goal at his mercy but fired wide.

Walden had another couple of chances as Tim Langer's run into the box was forced wide as he shot into the side netting then Graeme Turner broke free but Webster made an excellent save.

For 30 minutes of the second half it was pretty much all Diss as Sam Bryant went on a jinking run into the box before unleashing a superb shot that looked destined for the goal but was deflected over the bar.

Then after 61 minutes the only goal came when Stuart Garner's pin-point pass into the path of Huckle allowed the Diss striker to draw the keeper off his line before squaring the ball unselfishly to Watts-Sturrock on the edge of the box and he blasted the ball home.

Huckle still went in search of his first goal for 12 games and crashed a shot across the face of goal.

Then for the last 10 minutes the Tangerines were forced to defend in numbers as Greg Strong crossed for Jason Harvey who should have made more of his chance as he headed straight at Webster.

The Diss keeper made a crucial save from Green before making an absolute fantastic save in stoppage time.

Spike Bell's pile-driver of a shot, from all of 35 yards, skipped off the turf and Webster dived to his left at full stretch to parry it.
