Diss warmed up for the new Norfolk Alliance season with a superb nine wicket friendly win over Garboldisham.

It was a pleasing all round performance, with every member of the team playing their part, and with the likes of teenagers Sam Hunt, George Paine and James Hardy more than holding their own with the ball it bodes well for the opening league match at Norwich A on Saturday.

Captain Mark Williamson won his first toss in charge and didn't think twice about asking the home side to bat.

The decision paid immediate dividends as new recruit Dan Taylor bowled Leech with the very first ball of the season.

He didn't have to wait long for his next wicket either as Phoenix also went without scoring, being bowled via an inside edge.

In the third over Taylor was at it again, having Hogg caught smartly at mid-on by Rory Taylor. He then had Baker fending off to gully for a duck and when Jody Sparrow had Campbell (4) caught by Rob Tooke at slip and Philpott taken at gully via a wonder catch from David Tooke, the hosts were staring down the barrel.

Taylor (5-11) completed his impressive haul with the wicket of Buckmaster, caught at slip by Chris Cooper, to leave the hosts in all sorts of trouble at 34-7.

Fortunately for them a partnership then developed between Culling and Baker which brought a degree of respectability before Williamson broke the stand as he had Baker lbw to make it 73-8.

Garboldisham evenutually reached 124 before being all out in the 34th over, with Culling making 41.

In reply, a new opening combination of Lewis Taylor and Chris Cooper got the side off to a flying start, racing along to 36 without loss inside six overs. The pair had taken the score to 63 when Cooper was bowled by Fuller for an entertaining 37.

Williamson started scratchily but gradually got going and launched a mammoth six over the mid- wicket boundary off Fuller.

By this point the visitors were within sight of victory and with the score on 119, and requiring six for victory, Taylor pulled Phoenix for his second maximum, which took him to 53, a very well deserved half century from the young man.

It left Williamson unbeaten on 19 after a partnership of 62 in a resounding nine wicket win.
