Diss travelled to Dereham looking to cement their place at the summit of Division One, but were left frustrated by the weather.

After being bowled out for just 140 they had their hosts, who started the day in second position, struggling on 35-3 when the rain arrived.

Diss captain Mark Williamson won toss and elected to bat first. His side started slowly but steadily due to some tight bowling from the hosts, reaching 19-0 off the first seven overs.

Chris Cooper was the first to go, playing across the line and being trapped lbw to David Lake (1-29) for 17. David Tooke came to the crease and started confidently, hitting Lake for a big straight maximum. However, he played one big shot too many and was caught at mid-off off Soren Gauntlett for 17.

Mark Brawn (2) fell soon after when he unfortunately missed a full toss from Gauntlett. Robert Tooke played himself in before also succumbing to a full toss, picking out long-on for 22. Diss were in a spot of bother on 79-4 at the drinks break.

Williamson (23), who had done well to hold up an end, grew frustrated and ended up falling to good catch off Duncan Hewitt (2-22). Gauntlett collected his fourth wicket, bowling Daniel Taylor for one and finished his 10 overs with figures of 4-24.

Useful late order contributions from David Cokeley (12), Lewis Taylor (20) and Sam Hunt (16) helped Diss reach a competitive 140, before being all out in the 47th over.

At the tea break, there was a brief period of rain, but the delay was only short and the players were soon back on the playing field.

Daniel Taylor, as he has throughout the season, made another important early breakthrough, trapping Hewitt lbw with the third ball of the innings. He also bowled Cameron (0), before a superb piece of work from wicketkeeper Lewis Taylor meant that Ryan Fitt was run out for 15, leaving the hosts in trouble on 29-3.

At 35-3 from 14 overs, the game was again interrupted by the weather, and for a long period of time. The delay was over an hour before the umpires agreed to call the game off, much to the displeasure of some of the Dereham players.

Diss have another big game on Saturday at home to Swardeston A, who are now second (1pm).
