Diss made it eight wins on the spin in Division One of the Norfolk Alliance with a hard-fought three wicket victory over strugglers Mattishall.

The captains and umpires agreed on a 35 over game due to the threat of rain and Diss lost the toss and found themselves in the field.

Daniel Taylor (1-23) made an immediate impact, trapping J Chetwood lbw for one in his second over. Mattishall number three G Chetwood showed early intent, and with Fletcher, the pair added some quick runs, guiding their side to 50-1 off 11 overs.

Then Sam Hunt (1-25) made an important breakthrough when he bowled Chetwood for 32.

James Hardy had T Spalding (14) caught by Mark Williamson, before Fletcher was eventually out for 47 to Robert Tooke. Mattishall reached the 150 mark still with seven overs to go, but good bowling and fielding from the hosts made sure they only reached 177-9, with Mark Williamson (1-35), Chris Cooper (2-21) and Robert Tooke (3-39) picking up further wickets. J Cole ended unbeaten on 35.

Diss needed 178 to win at about five runs per over and they soon lost Williamson (9), caught at cover off Spalding (1-35).

David Tooke and Chris Cooper steadied the Diss innings and after getting themselves in, they comfortably ticked over the scoreboard at the required rate. At drinks Diss reached 91-1, a commanding position, but lost Tooke (38) straight after when he was bowled by Weber.

Cooper passed his second consecutive half century and looked comfortable, but Diss lost another wicket in Robert Tooke (13), still requiring a rate of five runs an over.

When they lost Cooper for 63 to Weber (2-34) Diss faced a nervy finish. D Taylor was bowled for three by Cole before Mark Brawn and Lewis Taylor helped to get the run chase back on track before Taylor was caught for 21 which brought Hunt to the crease.

He and Brawn put on a further 10 before Brawn was trapped lbw by Cole (3-34) for an important 11. Hunt hit a vital boundary at the end of the 33rd over and a wide at the start of the next over meant Diss required one boundary to win. New man Hardy coolly made the most of a ball on his legs and flicked it away to seal the win with nine balls to spare.

Diss picked up 22 points and stayed at the summit. They visit second-placed Dereham on Saturday (1pm).
