There was an excellent turnout at Diss Golf Club for the final playing of The John Grose Cup, with some 60 players taking part in a keenly contested event.
There were plenty of low scores in the morning, with the winning score recorded by Paul Wright, this year’s club captain, who came in with a commendable net 66.
In a tightly fought competition, second, third and fourth spots were taken by Roger Hinds, Charlie Stammers and Jason Sewell respectively, each with a net 67 — the final positions being determined on countback.
Everyone at Diss Golf Club is grateful for John Grose for their support over the years.
The club is actively seeking new sponsors for competitions and/or tee boxes.
Anyone interested in raising their profile should contact the club for more details on 01379 641025 or visit the website www.dissgolf.co.uk (see contact us/club sponsors).
The previous weekend 85 players took part in the first playing of the Chris Maskell Trophy at Diss.
Chris passed away last year after a battle with cancer.
He had been a member of the club since he was 18 when his father-in-law got him interested in golf. He left the golf club for a period and returned 25 years ago.
He played in county events for the club, being part of a winning Parks team. Chris spent several years on the committee and became club captain in 2006.
He was a keen supporter of Diss Golf Club, and most Saturdays would have a glass of his favourite red wine with his friends. He is sadly missed.
The competition was played in windy conditions and with a winning score of 43 stableford points one of the junior members, Harrison Groucott, became the first winner of the trophy.
In second place was Charlie Taylor with 40 points and in third place with 39 points was Keith Seeger.
The leading female player was Jane Izod with 39 points.
Prizes were presented by Chris’s wife Sue while also present were Chris’s two sons Darren and Robert and their families.
Darren is running a 12 mile assault course in aid of Big C Charity in memory of his dad.
Anyone who would like to sponsor him can do so on his Facebook page or by contacting Diss Golf Club.
