DISS CC ended the season on a high with a crushing victory over fifth-placed Sprowston to book themselves a place in Norfolk's top standard of cricket for the 2009 season.

Diss finished a massive 41 points clear of Bradenham in third place in Alliance Division One.

Diss are experienced at playing at Premier Division level and are fully aware of the challenges which they will be presented with - staying up will be the main task, and looking to re-establish themselves as a powerhouse figure within Norfolk cricket.

Losing the toss Diss took the field. After opening spells from Chris Germon and Steve Dungar, Simon Cooper was introduced into the attack, his variations of pace and cross seam bowling seemed to be suited to the dusty wicket.

The breakthrough when Cooper jagged a ball past Palmer's bat to crash into the off-stump. One more wicket would secure promotion. Cooper sent a ball through Hanby's gate and on to middle stump.

The elation of Diss players and spectators was evident to all and the team took a moment together out in the middle to celebrate.

Cooper then removed Leverett and in his 11th over he picked up his fourth wicket when Chris Germon took a good catch down at long-on, dismissing the Sprowston captain Roff for 11.

A handy 40-run partnership between Glozier and Murrell put some respectability back into Sprowston's score. Glozier was next to go though when Rob Tooke managed to catch the edge of the bat through to keeper Ben Green who took a tidy catch standing up.

Mike Tooke got two wickets in his first over, bowling Murrell for 30 and getting Husain superbly caught by James Wilby. Robert Tooke waded in with his second wicket when he bowled Roff for a duck, Diss picked up a run-out in the 45th over but couldn't bag the last wicket to leave Sprowston on 152-9.

In reply, Liam Brown and James Wilby sailed past the 50-run partnership mark. Brown was controversially adjudged to have been run out on 31. Wilby continued his fine season and passed the 50 mark by hitting three beautiful fours in a row. William Dawson (27no) at the other end played a superb supporting role again. Wilby was out lbw for 67.

Chris Cooper joined Dawson out in the middle with only 30 runs required, Cooper his the second biggest six seen at Rectory Meadow in 2008 before he was caught on 12.

Rob Tooke looked set to see Diss home alongside Dawson until he drilled a cut shot straight down point's throat. Steve Dungar hit the winning runs to cap off one of Diss CC's greatest-ever seasons.

The party began immediately, with MoM honours shared by Simon Cooper and James Wilby.
