Diss juniors and masters in pool action

A DISS Otters junior team has completed the two rounds of the Norfolk Junior League competition held each year for Norfolk-based swimming clubs.

In the first round Diss Otters hosted the gala at Thetford Swimming Pool competing against King's Lynn A and B team, Great Yarmouth, Norwich Swan and Long Stratton.

A small team of master swimmers from Diss Otters travelled to Lemington Spa to attend the Midland Masters competition.

Three swimmers in total competed in 19 races over the weekend with several

top-six placings.

Adam Lelean was on form, entering eight races. He achieved two fourth places for

400m freestyle and 400m individual

medley (IM) then four fifth places in

200m butterfly, freestyle, 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke.

Valerie Bull won the 400m individual medley and also gained fourth place in 400m freestyle, fifth in 100m butterfly.

Sally Lelean competed in six events, winning a second place in the 200m backstroke, third place in 100m

breaststroke.

Diss had several swimmers who have never competed outside of the club so there were some nervous swimmers and parents sitting on the sidelines.

Diss swam well in the first round with several wins and top-three placings. Overall, Diss were placed fifth.

In the second round, assistant coach Shirley was impressed with the swims.

Head coach Penny Storie said she was "pleased with the results overall and look forward to taking out the junior team next year, hopefully to show an improvement in position within the league".

Diss Otters can offer a place to children from the age of seven years and up who can swim 25m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke to join the swimming club.

Diss Otters is a competitive local swimming club and encourages every child to achieve their goals in swimming.
