Diss Town have a home Ridgeons League Division One match against Whitton United on Saturday (3pm) and will want to avoid the mistakes of the game at Godmanchester where they let a 3-0 lead slip to a draw.

Godmanchester United 3, Diss Town 3

Diss Town seemed to have this match won when they led 3-0 after 52 minutes.

However, a defensive error, a disputed penalty and a goal five minutes into added time meant that two points were dropped.

The draw took Diss into third place, a point ahead of FC Clacton.

The Essex team have played eight games fewer than Diss and have 17 games plus various cup ties to fit into the last 11 weeks of the season, and have to play Diss twice.

Andy Moody swooped to shoot Diss into a third-minute lead after goalkeeper Connor Jordan pushed a shot from Sam Bryant away.

Steve Thompson's 25-yard shot skipped up off the pitch, which was passed as playable after two morning pitch inspections, and forced Ally McAnally into a 20th minute save.

Jordan did well to save a 30th- minute shot from Jordan Rocastle.

A foul on Moody into first-half added time resulted in Diss going 2-0 ahead.

Craig Skipp took the kick and curled it towards goal for Luke Catchpole to head in from eight yards.

Godmanchester failed to deal with a long ball in the 52nd minute and Rocastle collected the ball and moved through unchallenged before beating Connor for his first goal for Diss.

Paul Bass took advantage of confusion in the Diss defence to shoot in from an acute angle in the 73rd minute to pull a goal back.

Three minutes later a shirt pull on Adam King was punished with a penalty and Bass scored his second goal of the game.

Catchpole had a chance to make the game safe for Diss but his shot flew high.

There was late drama with Godmanchester equalising five minutes into added time. Thompson crossed low for Geoff Robbins to tap in at the far post to make it 3-3.
