Diss on the move

DISS Ladies secured promotion on Saturday – and in doing so left themselves without a home.
Victory over Sprowston II left Diss uncatchable at the top of M&A Norfolk League Division Two, with two games still to play. However, league rules mean that next season they will have to play on an astro pitch, so will no longer be able to play their home games at Diss High School.
The club must now raise funds to cover the additional expense of hiring a pitch and they will be holding a quiz night on Saturday, May 21 at Roydon Village Hall.
Diss had most of the game in the first half on Saturday, with good attacking play between the midfield of captain Sam Howard, Gaby Rolingson and Tash Blakeley. Sprowston did have a breakaway attack after 15 minutes, but this was well cleared by Di Marshall who passed to Howard. She produced a superb pass to Toni Glover who converted with ease.
Glover had a great reverse stick shot cleared by the Sprowston keeper as the first half ended 1-0.
Sprowston came out fighting in the second half but couldn’t break through the stalwart defence of Di Marshall, Emily Comer, Charlie Everett and Sophie Brooks.
Diss doubled their lead from a short corner as Rolingson returned the ball to Glover and she fired a shot into the net.
Another short corner saw Lucy Kershaw’s shot deflected to Glover who scored a great reverse stick goal – her 31st of the season.
Diss let down their defences a little and Sprowston scored a consolation goal with a minute to go, but it was too late to launch a fightback.
The player-of-the-match award went to Diss’ Sam Howard.
