Saturday January 7, 2012 – Ridgeons Reserve League North

Stowmarket Town Reserves 2, Diss Town Reserves 4

Diss Reserves played for the first time in four weeks and deservedly ran out comfortable winners in a match where the winner was in doubt until near the finish.

Stowmarket had more of the early attacking with Craig Tostevin floating a 13th minute shot against a post. Diss moved forward and took the lead a minute later when Matty Cobb played a perfect long ball in from the right and Liam Leverett hit a superb right foot half volley into the net from 16 yards out for his 11th goal of the season. Cobb created the second goal in the 27th minute when his free kick from wide on the right caused problems to the home defence and Elliot Jackson shot in from close range. Five minutes later Cobb headed across his own goal to a centre from the right by Nathan Mayes and Tostevin shot in from six yards out.

Jackson was inches away from increasing the Diss lead in the 51st minute when he ran on to a superb pass from Ross Halil. Diss failed to clear the ball in the 59th minute, and for the second game in a row had been pegged back to 2-2 after leading 2-0, with Kieran Joseph gently rolling his shot in from eight yards out.

However, it took Diss less than a minute to regain the lead. Cobb played a high ball into the danger area and Lee Reynolds could only palm it away for Halil to shoot in from five yards out for a goal on a fine debut at this level. Aaron Holden went close to making the game safe after a great through ball from Jackson.

As the game went into added time Holden played a perfect pass for Jackson to move forward, bide his time and hit his left foot shot into the corner of the net to make it 4-2 and close to just one goal behind leading scorer Leverett for the season.
