Diss RFC thirds were spoilt for choice for players as they hosted Norwich Union's first team in this Norfolk Merit One match at Mackenders.

So much so, they took advantage of the unlimited replacement rule with a squad of 24 players.

A good time to have Gavin Brock and Henry Lind casting an eye over the proceedings.

After four minutes Keith Rix picked up from the base of a ruck out on the right to muscle over for the first try which was unconverted.

The second came from a backs move started by the back row on the half way line with interpassing from Benny Goodman, Nas Girgin and James Nichols finishing the move in the corner, again unconverted.

A back row move from a scrum deep in the Norwich Union half saw Paul Cayley go over, again unconverted.

At the turn-around Diss put all of their replacements on but the story was the same. Peter Bray, Mark Dungar and James Chapman kept punching holes around the breakdown and from these came two tries in quick succession for winger Dan Swanson after seeing the three-quarters, fed by Alex Crayton at fly-half, use quick hands to move the ball wide.

Craig Ward at inside centre used his power to crash through, followed by Joe Harwood and Danny Hilling, but a sloppy bit of play in the centre field gifted the ball to the visitors and good passing gave them a try for their winger under the posts which was easily converted.

Mark Dungar, after moving from tight head to lock, picked up a loose ball to charge over near the posts which Ben Askew converted.

The last score came from Harwood at the back of a line out barging through two tackles with Askew again converting.
