Diss Town got back to winning ways after the midweek loss at Mulbarton with a tight victory at home to King's Lynn Reserves on Saturday.

Boss Jason Cooke reshuffled his defence, with the returning Hayden Pain taking the place of captain Gavin Flurrie, who dropped to the bench, and Harry Moore replacing Franco Mallardo in midfield.

As with the previous home game Diss started slowly and the visitors took the lead in the 16th minute when a swift attack down the left saw the ball break to Alex Clunan who dispatched the ball into the net.

The Linnets should have doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when they had two players one-on-one with Diss keeper Jake Hayhoe, but Hayhoe stood his ground and kept the deficit to a single goal.

However as the half progressed Diss came more into the game. Virgillio Leitao brought a smart save from Lynn goalkeeper Charlie Congreve before Charlie Lambe, with his second home goal in two games, pulled Diss level in the 39th minute after seizing on a loose ball in the six yard box.

Diss had an early scare in the second half when Hayhoe once again saved from a one-on-one but the visitors were given a golden chance to take the lead in the 62nd minute when a clumsy challenge from Pain had the referee pointing straight to the spot. However Hayhoe guessed correctly to keep his team on level terms.

Thereafter the Tangerines stepped up a gear and took control. In the 70th minute a surging run from Steven Vincent down the right saw the ball being fed to Steve Holder who created space for himself before unleashing a left-foot shot into the back of the net. More chances for Diss followed but against the run of play Keiron Ship got his head on a corner in the 82nd minute to pull the visitors level.

It seemed Town were going to sacrifice two home points before Sam Last came off the bench to score. A cross from the right broke to Last who made no mistake with a shot from close range.

That was the end of the scoring as Town held on for a deserved win. Cooke will be concerned at Town's slow start to both home matches this season and conceding two goals per game at home won't be sustainable. Six points from the first three games sees Town in fourth place in the Thurlow Nunn Division One table, and a single point behind leaders Mulbarton. Diss are away to Fakenham Town on Saturday.
