Diss Town Youth FC hosted their first six-a-side tournament at Brewers Green Lane. Teams took part aged from under seven through to under 10 with some competitive football being played by the 200 or so children attending.

'The youth tournament was the first held at Brewers Green Lane and was a success with young players and their families enjoying some good close games in the spring sunshine. Both under nine and under 10 finals were decided on penalties which added to the excitement in those competitions.' said Tony Collins from Diss Town FC.

All under seven and eight players received a trophy for taking part, with trophies being awarded to the winners and runners-up in the under nine and under 10 competitions. The winners of the under nine tournament were Hillside FC in the morning. The afternoon saw Diss Town under 10 Hawks win their league after playing four matches and remaining undefeated, but lost 2-0 in the semi-final to the eventual under 10 winners, Stanton FC.

The evening saw the presentation night for Diss Town Youth at Brewers Green Lane.

The guest of honour was Matthew Upson who very kindly gave up his time following a busy season with West Ham United and prior to joining the England squad, to present the players their trophies.

Collins said: 'There was a very good attendance at the youth presentation night with the young players pleased to receive their mementoes of the season from Matthew Upson and all at the club wish him well as he heads to South Africa for the World Cup. The day was a significant step in the integration of the youth section into Diss Town FC.'

Diss Town Youth would like to thank all of the volunteers that kindly gave up their time to help during the day, especially members from their older youth teams that helped to ensure that the day ran smoothly.

Diss Town Youth are always interested in hearing from new players who wish to join the club and are also currently looking for new coaches to assist with running teams and training.
