Diss Town 0 AFC Sudbury Reserves 1
A defensive error was the only thing that separated the two sides in the first half, and AFC Sudbury Reserves seized on the opportunity to take 1-0 lead into the break.
The Tangerines improved in the second half, but despite creating several chances they did not get enough shots on target, allowing the visitors to win by the solitary goal.
Chris Greenslade came into midfield for the injured Sean Brown, in an otherwise unchanged side from the victory at Needham Market.
The teams were evenly matched early on but in the 11th minute the away side were presented with an opportunity and took it well. A ball was chipped over the home defence and Kyle Downes seemed to misjudge the flight. Ryan McNicholas latched on to the loose ball and crossed into the area where James Axcell fired the ball home past Will Izod. Downes had a chance to equalise five minutes later but his header went wide.
The Tangerines stepped up the pressure in the second half and created more chances. In the 70th minute Jason Armes was found near the penalty spot and he attempted to guide a shot into the far corner, but his shot cleared the crossbar. Two minutes later the ball was switched to the left side and found Barrett in space, but he rifled his first time shot over the crossbar.
In the 74th minute, Greenslade let fly from outside the area with a powerful drive that went just wide of the post. Four minutes later Joe Manning got in a shot on target from the centre of the area but the Sudbury keeper was able to parry the ball and gather at the second attempt.
The Tangerines brought on striker Ben Fowkes for midfielder Greenslade in their search for a goal, but AFC Sudbury Reserves defended well and should have added to their score deep into injury time. The goal was prevented when Chris Gibbons did well to rob Ollie Peters as he was about to run the ball across the line.
The Tangerines have no match on Saturday. Their next game is away at Debenham LC on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Diss Reserves went down 5-0 at Stanway Rovers Reserves. They have two home games coming up — against Brightlingsea Reserves on Saturday (3pm) and Wivenhoe Reserves on Tuesday (7.45pm).
