Eye Pond's new side saw Diss Angling Club's Tuesday match last week and with just over one pound separating the top three anglers it was a tight and tense affair.

Doug Burrows made the best of the day's action when he caught roach, rudd chub and skimmers, all on the pole.

Burrows brought and 11¼lb to the scales to claim first place. Second on the day went to Barry Day, who is making framing a habit.

Day caught roach, skimmers and chub and only fell short of Burrows by 9ozs when he brought a 10lb 10oz to the scales. Judy Johnson claimed third place with her bag of fish which went 9lb 15oz.

With no Saturday match due to lack of turnout, it was just the Sunday match which held all the excitement for Diss.

Not only was the weather against Diss, as twice during the match there were two very heavy cloud bursts, but for one person the bank was against them - when they went to move their umbrella they slipped into the lake and only their head was visible above the bank side reeds.

Just back from a fishing holiday, Andrew Mears showed that he hadn't lost his touch and bagged steadily in the second half of the match to record his first win of the new season.

He took carp to over 9lb to win with 46lb 14.5oz.

Second went to Ricky Leggett, his first match in over two years. Ricky had to scale down to start picking up the fish and a good burst near the end of the match saw him bring a 28lb 3oz to the scales. Third went to Bill Davies, who has framed in the first four matches this season. His total was 24lb 7oz, all carp.
