Festive test for anglers

THE introduction of the Christmas tree on the Mere affected the way Diss AC's latest match was fished.

A rope that holds the tree in place has been strung across the Mere, which is not normally there, is cutting off the pegs on the Parkside from the deeper water where the fish have moved into as the water temperature drops and some pegs are now unfishable because of this badly place rope.

The draw was everything and if you were lucky to draw deep water you had a better chance of success.

Peter Wall had the prefect draw with 15 foot of water within a few feet of the bank and the roach holding up there to find a water temperature which was favourable to them.

Wall used the pole and caught just roach to 10oz for his win and ended the day with a comfortable 14 lb 10oz.

Second place went to Andrew Mears who fished the long pole at three metres and took a bag of roach.

Mears was hampered from the rope as he felt the feeder into the deeper water would have given him a better chance of catching a better stamp of fish for a bigger weight.

Third on the day went to Stephen Edwards with 1lb 11 of roach after switching to fish further out to 11 metres.

This weekend is the Diss Angling Club's Fur and Feather match which is being held at Eye Ponds. It's a time to bring and receive a prize. So if you're going remember a prize.
