DISS Reserves gained their first point of the season in a superb match against Thetford Reserves.

The match started at a fast and furious pace and continued in that vein through to the final whistle.

The action was as frantic at the end as it was at the beginning. The crowd enjoyed the efforts of two teams who were honest in their efforts, created many chances and got back to deny their opponents with vigour.

The match was excellently refereed by Jon Block. His willingness to apply the advantage law helped the entertainment and allowed the attacking action to flow.

Diss manager Garth Good has been working hard to get more experienced players into his squad. Mark Camidge was vocal in his organisation at the back, Liam Stockell made his debut after a hand injury delayed his first appearance and Christian Money and Steve Wright gained much needed match action.

Thetford took the lead in the 21st minute when a superb advantage was played by referee Block to allow Matt Dixon, who made one appearance earlier in the season for the Diss first team, to continue after he was fouled and shoot Thetford ahead.

Terry Minshull played a perfect pass across the face of goal, again after advantage was played following a foul on Liam Stockell, a minute later but Steve Wright failed to score when unmarked close in.

However, he did score the equaliser in the 34th minute. Wright cut in from the right and sent a fierce shot into the far corner of the net.

Camidge was the busier goalkeeper in the first half and his defence combined well to make last ditch tackles when their goalkeeper seemed to be in trouble, especially at corner kicks. Thetford shaded the first half with Diss doing likewise in the second.

Diss had more of the second half attacking play. Wright forced Matt Terry into a great double save in the 68th minute. Play was moving rapidly from end-to-end and it was not clear if a winner would come.

Keiran Nicholls ran the defence in the 77th minute and found Wright in space. His teasing low cross saw Olly Verrell steer his shot narrowly wide.

Terry Minshull ran at the heart of the Thetford defence in the 80th minute and had a shot blocked by a defender before an on target shot by Keiran Nicholls was saved by Terry. Late in the game George Playford had a shot blocked by Terry as the Diss midfield player moved on to a dangerous free-kick.

Diss: Mark Camidge, Clark Field, Tom Gray, Max Rissman, Christian Money, George Playford, Craig Tullis, Jake McDowall, Liam Stockell, Steve Wright, Terry Minshull.

Subs: Scott Partridge (McDowall 77), Olly Verrell (Tullis 74), Keiran Nicholls (Stockell 67), Kyle Coxon and Ronnie Heffer.

Attendance: 40.
