Harleston Town 6, Downham Market Res 1

Harleston's impressive recent form continued at The Rec on Saturday as they put in another fine performance to extend their recent winning run and remain in touch with fellow promotion hopefuls at the top end of Anglian Combination Division Two.

With confidence high in the Harleston camp, they started the game positively and at a high tempo.

Town's positive start was rewarded after just five minutes when Lee West broke the deadlock with a superb individual goal.

The attacking left-back picked the ball up on the left-hand side and showed some great footwork to leave three Downham defenders for dead before curling a fine right-footed effort into the top corner of the goal, leaving the keeper no chance.

On the 15-minute mark Town doubled their advantage when David Norman did well to control a loose ball in the box before keeping his cool to place the ball through a crowd into the far corner of the goal from 15 yards.

With half-time approaching Town almost scored a third, but Paul Bliss' looping header came back off the bar with the keeper beaten.

After a slightly lacklustre end to the first half, Town came out firing for the second half as they upped the tempo again and began launching a wave of attacks on the Downham goal.

James Trudgill was now finding a lot more space, getting on the end of two flowing Town moves, but was unlucky to see his first effort, a diving header go just wide, and his second effort well saved by the legs of the Downham keeper following great work my Jake Imrie.

Hadlee Wright then unleashed a fine effort from the edge of the box which the keeper did very well to keep out as Town pushed for that important third goal.

It wasn't long in coming as Town launched another attack when Imrie and Trudgill combined for the latter to deliver a good cross into the path of Fionn Goodwin-Wright who did well to turn with his first touch and finish into the bottom corner with his second.

Goodwin-Wright soon added a fourth when he fired the ball goalwards after a quickly-taken free-kick and the ball eluded the unfortunate keeper and nestled in the net.

Town then introduced all three substitutes and understandably lost a bit of momentum. Downham pulled a goal back, but any hopes of a revival were short lived as almost immediately from the restart Wright rounded the keeper to score Town's fifth.

In the closing stages Town completed the scoring when an unfortunate Downham defender smashed his clearance straight at James Rogers and the ball flew off him and into the net.
