Scole United beat high-flying Thetford Rovers 2-0 on Tuesday evening.

United are 10th in the table, but could move up a couple of places with victory in their final game of the Anglian Combination Division two season, which is due to be at home to Bungay Town tonight.

Three points would see them end their campaign on 44 points, which would move them ahead of Foulsham and Attleborough Town.

Scole suffered a 4-3 defeat at Foulsham on Saturday, having hammered Hempnall Reserves 7-1 the previous midweek.

It was two late goals which undid Scole's hard work in an entertaining game at Foulsham.

Both teams had players out and both created chances from the first whistle.

Foulsham thought they had taken the lead early on, but the striker's lob over the keeper unluckily bounced off the hard ground and over the bar. After that it was Scole who had the better of the chances, with Will Goulding going close.

Foulsham took the lead after 30 minutes when the ball was crossed in and hit skipper Adam Solley on his raised arm leading the referee to rightly point to the spot.

Scole then had a couple of chances which the Foulsham keeper saved and at the other end Jack Buckmaster made a brilliant one-handed stop.

Scole equalised before half-time when the ball was laid back to Ben Cussons who drilled home at the near post.

Scole kept their 3-5-2 formation in the second half, but went 2-1 behind with a smart finish from the Foulsham forward.

Scole then scored two in quick succession, which looked to have won the game.

Firstly, Goulding was first to a loose ball and tucked in the rebound for his seventh goal in three games. Shortly after that an excellent cross reached the far post and Sean Burden volleyed in.

Scole possibly should have converted another but Shaun Flint's two superb crosses into the box were not met by anyone.

With 10 minutes to go, the game turned on its head. A Foulsham player appeared to use his arm in the centre circle to control the ball before playing it through for the centre forward to score.

This deflated Scole, but it still looked like a point each until a long ball from Foulsham was half-cleared and then one of their players let fly with a thunderbolt from 25 yards into the bottom corner.

Scole man of the match: Sean Burden. Not the fittest player in the squad but showed some great touches and passing ability and a great goal.
