With their worst performance of the season by some margin, high-flying Diss managed to undo all the good work from the previous week by losing to Brentwood 19-5.

Diss minds must now be focused on the game in hand - against Norwich this weekend.

The game started with Brentwood playing down the sloping pitch with the wind at their backs.

They tried to make the most of this advantage by launching waves of attacks.

What did surprise Diss supporters was the number of missed tackles and turnovers conceded.

Brentwood took a quick free-kick and mauled the ball over the line for their hooker to score a try near the corner, which was not converted.

Diss then got themselves deep into the opposition half but despite being in several promising positions they were not able to convert their chances into points.

They went further behind when the Brentwood fly-half converted a drop goal when given too much time and space.

Again Diss responded by gaining territory up the slope, and positioning themselves deep in the opposition half.

This time their efforts were rewarded as for once the forwards created some momentum and mauled their way across the line for hooker Richard Horne to score.

The conversion was narrowly missed, but the deficit was now down to just three points.

Despite several further Brentwood attacks, Diss were able to hold out until half-time.

However, the expected Diss revival never materialised.

Instead, it was Brentwood who gave their opponents a lesson in how to play up the slope.

The penalty count against Diss started to rise and it was when Brentwood were able to convert one in the 60th minute that the home side began to play with the belief that they were going to win.

That belief grew when they converted yet another penalty, close to the Diss posts.

Worse was to come for the visitors when Brentwood scored a pushover try through their hooker.
