Good experience for Otters

DISS Otters used an inexperienced squad when they competed in the Long Trophy Gala held at Bungay swimming pool.

This gala proved an ideal opportunity for the young swimmers, many of whom had not competed at club level before.

This gala proved an ideal opportunity for the young swimmers, many of whom had not competed at club level before.

The young squad responded exceptionally well, and, by the end of the night, were

eagerly looking forward to their next competitive gala.

Katie Halmshaw showed great determination to win the girls' U9 50m breaststroke in her first-ever competitive swim for the Otters.

Sister Emma Halmshaw also enjoyed a successful night, winning the girls' U11 50m freestyle event.

Several other swimmers were narrowly beaten into second place including Charlotte Palmer (50m freestyle), Taylor Bowen (50m freestyle), Luc Van Rensburg (50m breaststroke), Jessica Nash (50m backstroke) and Henry Melton (50m backstroke).

The Otters finished the gala in style when the 16 x 25m cannon freestyle relay team claimed second place. The team was Ellie Sarson, Charlotte Palmer, Charlotte Dickinson, Jessica Nash, Ruth Melton, Emma Halmshaw, Bethany Palmer, Francesca Wallace, Tom Storey, Henry Melton, Leon Kershaw, Iwan Lloyd, Jack Turner, Daniel Brooks, Ben Rose and Gwillam Lloyd.

Final scores: Beccles Green 133, Beccles White 79, Leiston 78, Diss 64.
