Harleston Town secured promotion to Division Two with six games to spare, following an Easter Monday massacre of a sorry Beccles Town Reserves side.

With Saturday’s game against Wymondham Reserves being called-off by Wymondham, handing Harleston the points, Town entered this fixture knowing a win against the divisions basement side would be enough to ensure promotion.

Town made one change to their line-up with Bram Goodwin Wright replacing James Trudgill who dropped top the bench due to transport difficulties.

Town started the game, looking to put in a professional and disciplined performance and not allow complacency to get the better of them.

From the first moment of the game, Harleston passed the ball with style and soon found themselves three goals to the good thanks to a brace from Fionn Goodwin Wright and a superb long-range effort from David Norman.

With Town seemingly cruising they were dealt a wake up call when Beccles pulled a goal back when the winger’s cross looped over keeper Rob Goodwin into the net, however, within moments of the restart captain Ryan London headed home a Fionn Goodwin Wright corner.

Harleston were now playing some outstanding pass and move attacking football and David Norman soon added two more headed goals, from great team moves to complete his hat-trick. Ben Green added a seventh with his first since rejoining the club and Bram Goodwin Wright completed the first half scoring as Town went into the break 8-1 up following an awesome first-half display.

Harleston were immediately on the front foot again in the second half, but credit to the visitors, they never gave up and the flurry of goals
looked to have come to an end as the hosts began to squander good chances with every player trying to get on the score sheet.

Harleston were, however, permanently camped in the visitors’ half but had to wait till 25 minutes into the second half for their next goal which came from the unlikeliest of sources, left-back Lee West finally claiming his first for the club with a good finish.

Ben Green’s work-rate then allowed him to rob the Beccles defence to add the 10th before David Norman claimed his fourth goal of the morning. Green then rounded of proceedings with his hat-trick goal.

A lethal performance from Harleston who now look to clinch the remaining one point required from their last six games to secure the title.

JD Young MoM: David Norman — four quality goals.

Loddon Reserves 0, Harleston Town 1

A Marc Pearce goal mid-way through the first half was enough
to earn Town another important, hard-fought away day victory.

Town dug deep and held on for a
vital three points. It was another superb hard-working team performance by Town to grind out another crucial victory.

JD Young MoM: Lee West, great defensive and attacking display from the full-back who has been in outstanding form in the second half of the season.

n Harleston Town Reserves completed their league programme with a 2-2 draw at home to Kirkley & Parkefield B with goals from Gav Durham and skipper James Rogers.

Attention will now turn to the John Moore Shield final where Harleston Reserves take on Blundeston Magpies Reserves at Lowestoft Town FC tomorrow (Friday, 6.30 kick-off).
