Harleston Town progressed to the last eight of the Mummery Cup with a 2-0 victory over a decent Mattishall outfit at The Rec on Saturday.

Town were without Nathan Russell, Brendan Burke and Dale Simpson but new signing Ryan Fuller was on the bench after joining from Wroxham in midweek and Jame Pipe earned his first start of the season after his hat-trick from the bench last week.

The opening stages of the match were very even with Town working to adapt to Mattishall's physicality. Chances were at a premium at both ends, with defences on top.

Town began to gain the ascendancy as the half wore on and they took the lead shortly before half-time when Scott Roberts curled in a delightful free-kick.

The second half was once again a close affair but midway through the second half Town got the all important second goal when in-form frontman James Pipe headed home. From there Town saw out the game to safely advance to the quarter-finals.

Town are without a game on Saturday but they have a tough looking trip to Wroxham Reserves the following Wednesday.

Team: Pauling, S Willis, O Willis, Howard, Pearce, Roberts, Page, Delaney, Howell, Pipe, Stone (Fuller).

Harleston Reserves climbed to third in the table with their sixth successive victory, winning 5-2 away at Poringland Reserves with goals from Field (2), Lamoureux, Povey and Rush.

Long Stratton recorded a fourth straight win with a 2-1 victory over St Andrews to reach the last eight.

James Bemrose put Stratton ahead inside three minutes and Danilo Campoli made it 2-0 early in the second half.

St Andrews got one back with 20 minutes left but Stratton comfortably held on.

Stratton return to league action on Saturday with a trip to bottom-of-the-table Reepham Town.

Long Stratton Reserves lost 2-3 at Swaffham Town Reserves (Daniel Ringer 2) while the U19s beat Acle Rangers 4-1 (J Bemrose 3, Lewis Burrows).

Scole bowed out of the Mummery Cup when they were beaten 4-1 at home by Mulbarton, for whom Jamie George (2), Eliot Altay and Mark Sutcliffe were on target. Matthew Brown scored the consolation for Scole, who host Mundford on Saturday.
