Heartbreak as Scole United miss out to Reffley Royals in pursuit of Carrow Road date

Reffley Royals 6 Scole United 5

Scole lost a high scoring, heartbreaking semi-final at Reffley to miss out on a trip to Carrow Road.

On Reffley's tiny, heavy pitch, the home side started off on fire and Scole could not get their passing football going.

Reffley scored after only five minutes from the penalty spot after a handball decision against Luke Ashford.

However it wasn't long before Scole equalised, a long crossfield ball towards David Bloomfield causing confusion between a Reffley defender and goalkeeper and Nyle Barker rolling in the loose ball from 25 yards.

It was still Reffley dominating the game at this stage and they soon made it 3-1.

Scole looked beaten, but gave everything to get back into the game. Impressive frontman James Edwards turned the centre back, but his volley hit the bar. Five minutes later, he did the same before laying the ball off to predator Shaun Flint who sidefooted home from 10 yards. Scole were level before half-time when a Bloomfield cross was met by Adam Solley whose header beat the keeper.

Scole had their tails up at the start of the second half and soon went ahead. Ashford was tripped on the edge of the area and Flint's powerful free-kick went through the wall and into the far corner.

Reffley equalised again when yet another free-kick was put into the area and nodded in from very close range.

It was end to end for the rest of the game. Scole went 5-4 up from a soft penalty which was converted by Edwards before Reffley equalised when their right winger jinxed inside and his powerful drive was deflected in.

With 13 minutes to go, Reffley got their noses in front. A long-range effort was tipped onto the bar by Buckmaster, but Reffley's centre forward was first to the rebound to bring jubilant scenes to the home side.
