Jordan Rocastle was on fire as Diss Town beat Cornard on Saturday, hitting five goals.

The Tangerines will hope to keep up the momentum despite not playing Saturday as they next visit fellow promotion hunters Gorleston on Tuesday.

The Greens have games in hand on the Tangerines and both will be looking to strengthen their strong promotion claims.

Diss Reserves visit their Dereham counterparts in Ridgeons Reserve League North on Saturday while Diss A host Nostro Reserves.

Cornard United 0, Diss Town 6

Diss won at bottom-of-the-table Cornard to move into second place in the table. Jordan Rocastle took his goals tally to 16 for the season as he struck five times.

The Tangerines started at a furious pace and were 2-0 up inside six minutes. George Watts-Sturrock sent a free-kick across for Brendan Foley to head past Matt Walker for the opening goal.

Rocastle turned into the penalty area before curling his shot past Walker to make it 2-0.

Inside the next four minutes Dan Wynne forced Walker to make two fines saves as an avalanche of goals looked on the cards.

Rocastle scored again as he beat a defender before curling another superb shot past Walker.

He won the ball five minutes later and sent a fierce shot past Walker to complete his hat-trick.

Jonny King smashed a 30-yard shot against the bar but the two second-half goals were both scored by Rocastle.

He used his skill to beat a defender before making it 5-0 with a low shot. Cornard did have a chance to get a consolation but Danny Lloyd was having a quiet debut in the visiting goal. The scoring was completed when Watts-Sturrock moved into the penalty area and played the ball across low for Rocastle to shoot in.

Diss Res 3, Lowestoft Res 1

League leaders Diss Reserves put in a superb performance against Lowestoft Reserves to end the Trawler Boys' 100 per cent winning start to the season.

Diss adapted better to the difficult conditions and battled well to secure a victory that could have been even more emphatic.

They hold a four-point lead at the top of the table, although Lowestoft do have four games in hand.

However, on this showing there will be little to choose between the two North Division title challengers at the end of the season.

Goalkeeper Phil Smith controlled a back pass in the 14th minute and by the time he was ready to clear Kirk Bardsley had put the pressure on and charged the clearance down to put the Tangerines ahead.

Bardsley and Rafel Szalek were close with well-struck shots and the question was whether a 1-0 half-time lead would be enough as Diss had to defend into the face of a strong second half wind.

They kept the lead thanks to a fine goal-line clearance from Ryan MacFadden at a corner.

Lowestoft gave the ball away as they moved out of their penalty area. Karl Ansley collected the ball and played it to Bardsley in space in an inside left position on the edge of the penalty area.

He moved forward and sent a low shot into the corner of the net to make it 2-0. Aaron Bunn made his one significant save of the afternoon when he dived to keep out a shot from the experienced Stewart Roach.

Two minutes later Smith made a brilliant point-blank save after Peter Hooks ran down the right and crossed low for Bardsley to shoot.

A misplaced pass fell well for Louis Cutajar to moved forward and pull a goal back.

Diss were not ruffled by this set back and restored their two goal lead two minutes later when Elliot Jackson found George Cole just inside the attacking half.

Cole, after releasing Bardsley, was fouled but a superb advantage played by referee Jon White meant that Bardsley was able to have a free run on goal and keep his cool to complete his hat-trick by shooting low past Smith.

A minute before time Smith made the save of the game when he pushed over a well-struck Bardsley shot after he was played through by Elliot Jackson — again fine advantage play after a foul on Jackson.

Manager's MoM: The defence kept the game tight but the points were secured as Kirk Bardsley struck his second hat-trick of the season to increase his goals tally to 15 for the season. Two great saves in the second half prevented him from scoring even more.
