Evergreens 2 Harleston Magpies Ladies IV 0
Magpies travelled to Holt for an early morning push back against fifth-placed Evergreens, feeling positive they could avenge their 3-2 loss at Weybread earlier in the season.
Magpies started well, building on their positive performance from last week, passing the ball sharply with more confidence and enjoying their new formation system. Magpies were rewarded when they won a short corner, but unfortunately Sarah Legg's strong strike just whistled past the outside of the post. Evergreens, however, boasted a quality side, with strength and pace throughout, and when they caught the Magpies defence flat-footed in the D, a sharp shot took a deflection and gave the home side the lead. Magpies kept their heads up and battled back, with some lovely movement in the midfield from Emily Parsons on the left wing, but couldn't find an equaliser before half time.
The second half was again, evenly contested, with possession fifty-fifty, and Magpies progressed well with their new shape, but midway through the half Evergreens doubled their lead; a close range shot competently converted after they'd won a short corner . Magpies again fought back, Treacle Griffin in her sweeper role moving the ball out wide to Vicky Blackmore who constantly found space on the left hand side, but could not find that final ball to threaten the Evergreens 'keeper.
The performances are, without a doubt, improving for Magpies, and spirit amongst the squad is unquestionable, but they must keep battling to salvage something from the remaining games.
