Diss Golf Club's annual Bob the Cat event, named after a friendly cat who frequented the club for many years, was a big success.

Captain Paul Wright selected East Anglia Children's Hospice as the charity to benefit from this year's event.

A large turnout of members played in a friendly but challenging teams of four competition with restrictions on clubs on certain holes.

The winning team with a good score of 92 stableford points was made up of Monica Comer, Ryan Howell, Andy Mack and Charlie Stammers.

Following the golf, a raffle and a successful auction took place in the clubhouse. Auction items included a Ronaldo signed football, Norwich City FC signed shirt, a stay at Brudenell Hotel, Aldeburgh and many other items.

The sum of £1,900 was raised on the day and a further £1,000 was generously added to the fund by Barclays Bank (Diss).

Cheri Payne, a representative from East Anglia Children's Hospice, attended the competition and gave a insight into how children living with life-threatening conditions and/or complex health care needs can benefit from the charity's help.

The captain thanked all who took part in the competition and supplied some generous auction items while special thanks was given to Neil Taylor from Barclays Bank.

Meanwhile Diss Ladies had a very successful day at Newton Green last week playing in the Suffolk County Silver Division.

The winner of the individual trophy was Becky Draper (Diss) with nett 70 on countback from Jan Doe also nett 70.

Diss Ladies also brought home the Team Shield with the best three scores on countback. The team members were Jenny Chamberlin, Becky Draper and Philippa Bridges.

Winners of the annual Jack Gillick Foursomes Cup competition which took place last month were Philippa Bridges and Dennis Millier with 32 stableford points.

The Pauline Burroughes Salver, an annual ladies' event at the club, was won by Liz Speak with 43 stableford points.

The ladies were delighted to see John and Lorna Burroughes return to the club to join in on the day's play and present the Salver in memory of John's mother Pauline.
