Hoxne's tournament triumph

HOXNE Bowls Club won the annual Mid Suffolk all-day tournament at Yarmouth for the first time in 20 years.

At lunch time the Lord Hurtingfield Cups looked like going to the holders Dennington on their usual close rivals Laxfield.

At lunch time the Lord Hurtingfield Cups looked like going to the holders Dennington on their usual close rivals Laxfield.

However, entering the final game Hoxne who finished bottom last year had a narrow lead and they maintained this as they beat Laxfield (48 to 44) to finish on (24) shots.

Dennington who also won the Andrew Cup was second on (234) with Laxfield just behind on (231). Fressingfield and Bedingfield share fourth place on 208 with Stradbroke last on 182.

The Baxter Cup was shared by champions and the blocks prize (highest scoring block) whose team were not in the first two) went to the Fressingfield quartet of P Hill, R Smith, R Gyford and M Hewet. Total was 67 shots.

The president for the day who presented the prizes was Ray Hamson of Fressingfield, who thanked the competition secretary Ruby Andrews and her assistant Clive Baxter.

Competition winners were Mr E Fearearyear, Mr B Hopper, Mr M Flounders, Mr M Ransome, Mr R R Harrison, Mr T Diggins, Mr A Burridge, Mr B Roberts, Mr M Chittock, Mr J Everson, Mr R Wilkinson and Mr J George.
