MAGPIES II maintained their push for promotion with a convincing 6-1 victory over Cambridge City.

Magpies welcomed back rock Dan Legg, playing his first game of this year.

Magpies dominated the first half but struggled to break down a resolute Cambridge defence, the visiting keeper made several decent saves before a well-worked short-corner routine between Will Harrison and Robbie Kinsella saw Harrison score. Despite more pressure Magpies were unable to increase their lead before half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern with one difference, goals! Kinsella scored with a ferocious shot from a close angle. The third goal quickly followed which was an excellent link-up play between Hipwell, Stacey and Jamie Legg applied the finishing touch.

Kinsella scored the fourth from a short corner before Cambridge pulled a goal back, Magpies responded immediately with Duncan Stevens being set free and beat the advancing from the top of the area. Then James Stacey got a deserved goal when he deflected a long ball into the back of the net.

Another excellent team performance with some good quality passing and movement which eventually got the reward it deserved. MoM: Robbie Kinsella.

Next up is an away trip to St Ives where Magpies look to carry on this rich vein of form.
