HARLESTON Magpies men's first team go into the second half of the season leading the second clubs in NE14HOCKEY East Premier A by eight points with a game in hand.

This season's league winners gain automatic promotion to the Conference East of the National League. After losing out by goal difference last season and coming second in the previous season it is hoped that Magpies make it third time lucky.

In the mid season break the Magpies squad has been involved in the Premier Division of the National Indoor League finishing in a highly creditable seventh place, thereby retaining their status for next season.

This competition against the top sides in the country together with a stiff programme of outdoor training has put the squad in good shape for the resumption of the outdoor season.

The outdoor game is totally different to indoor and so Magpies will need to adapt very quickly in their home game against Bishops Stortford this Saturday (2.15pm).

The Hertfordshire side pushed Magpies all the way in the opening game of the season and although their early form was poor their recent results would suggest this game will not be easy for the home team.

A full squad is available for Magpies who know anything less than a home win is unacceptable.
