Mixed fortunes for Diss Town

Diss Town travel to Brantham Athletic on Saturday after a week of mixed fortunes.

They lost to Halstead Town in Ridgeons Division One on Saturday but bounced back to beat Swaffham in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Norfolk Senior Cup draw last week has pitted the Tangerines against Anglian Combination side Mattishall.

Swaffham 0, Diss 1

DISS returned to Shoemakers Lane, where they had won 3-1 earlier in the season in a league game, to secure a 1-0 win and a place in the last 16 of the cup.

Jonny King ran from halfway and exchanging passes with Mark Shadrack but his shot lacked power. Xavier Huckle headed wide to a Steve Wright centre, Sam Bryant was just wide and a header from King was on target to a corner from Stuart Garner - all inside the first four minutes.

From an intricate free-kick move Garner moved to a central position and shot just wide. Later on Wright took a return pass from George Watts-Sturrock and steered his shot against a post.

Swaffham replied with their best spell of the match and King was forced into a goal-line clearance.

The Tangerines finally broke the deadlock from a free-kick. Shadrack took it 20 yards out and played the ball to Watts-Sturrock. His return pass gave Shadrack the space to hit a low shot past the wall and inside the right-hand post.

In the second half Bryant had a shot deflected wide after a good centre from Huckle, who later forced Marshall to palm away a header to a cross from Bryant.

Matt Webster made his only save of the night when he blocked Stuart Seales' shot after a fine Swaffham passing move.

Soanes forced Marshall to use his feet to keep out a shot. From the resulting corner Soanes had a header cleared off the line.

Marshall, clearly struggling with an injury, made a brilliant save to push away a 20-yard Shadrack free kick in added time.

On Saturday, Diss returned to league action after a break of almost three weeks and lost 3-0 to visitors Halstead.
