The Lopham and Diss based Kumo Judo Club experienced mixed fortunes in Europe at the weekend.

British No. 1 - 66k Colin Oates fought in Georgia at the World Cup.

He progressed to the third round but then lost in the repocharge and dented his chances of qualifying for the Beijing Olympics despite moving up a few places in the European rankings.

In Nivelles, Belgium, Thomas Turner won three contests to take his first senior gold at +100k and sister Emma took bronze.

The weekend also saw the return to European competition for former British Junior Champion Gemma Moore, 12, who battled to the final but then had to be content with a silver medal.

The coming weekend will see both Kumo Great Britain Internationals Colin Oates and Thomas Turner battling in the Belgium Open in Vise.
