TWO of the unplayed league tournament events were settled this week in the Diss and District Table Tennis League with the Open Singles and Open Doubles events being played.

John Monk retained his singles title by beating Jason Evans 11-7, 11-3, 11-5. However, Evans who was partnered with Chris Jones, managed to get one over Monk and his partner, Trevor Cottee, by winning the doubles 11-9, 11-9, 11-6. Just a shame that there were not many spectators present to witness the two leading tournament events finals.

In the Leisure Sport Premier Division leaders Pulham extended their lead at the top of the table after beating third-placed Shotguns A 9-1. Steve Pendle and Francis Webb unbeaten for Pulham. Shotgun's solitary point coming from a Peter Maybury win over Neville Beckett 4-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.

In the Speedy Bat Sports first division Shotguns D are now joint leaders with Palgrave Stars and have a match in hand after they beat Palgrave Tornadoes 9-1. Peter Bowman and Marcus Hammond unbeaten for the D team with Ken Bowman a brace but lost to Alan Worthington 10-12, 10-12, 5-11. The Tornadoes nearly added a doubles point Bowman/Hammond just overcame Worthington/Woods 8-11, 13-11, 12-10, 5-11, 14-12.

This week saw the final group handicap cup matches played to determine which two teams progress to the second round group stage where only the group winners progress to the semi-finals.

Weybread Rejects beat Aslacton B 10-8 with Mark Durham taking five wins and are joined with Roydon after they received a walk-over from Pulham.
