Now in its third year, the Girls section of Stradbroke CC goes from strength to strength, now boasting over 20 junior members. Finding other teams to play is proving a problem with only three fixtures all season, so a Girls v Mums match was arranged to give them one more game.

Now in its third year, the Girls section of Stradbroke CC goes from strength to strength, now boasting over 20 junior members. Finding other teams to play is proving a problem with only three fixtures all season, so a Girls v Mums match was arranged to give them one more game.

Two years ago the girls won easily. This time experience won the day. Sally Garrod and Fiona Shuttle unveiled hidden talents with the bat and two late boundaries by Caroline Johnson set a challenging 275 to win.

More impressive was the fact that the Mums lost just one wicket.

They then turned the screw by bowling tightly leaving the last pair needing 34 in three overs. Ellie Johnson (19) hit lustily but it was a bridge too far for the girls. Ellie's batting has been sound all year, the highlight being her 34 at Copdock, helping Stradbroke to an historic away win.

She has not been dismissed for almost three seasons and still found time to take seven wickets and six catches. Not surprisingly she is part of the Suffolk U15 squad.

Tilly Heydon and Tori Coleman have played for Suffolk U13s whilst Kate Thompson, Lottie and Chloe Ackerley have all represented Mid Suffolk in the Suffolk Youth Games.

Credit must go to Caroline Johnson for supporting everything they do and to Tony Elliott and Scott Turner for their coaching and encouragement.
