DISS A kept their nerve and won a very exciting Division Three match against Old Catton by 11 runs. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Diss started slowly but accumulated runs to be 90-2 at the half-way stage.
DISS A kept their nerve and won a very exciting Division Three match against Old Catton by 11 runs. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Diss started slowly but accumulated runs to be 90-2 at the half-way stage.
Ollie Marriot was the pick of the early batsman and he finished with a creditable 45.
The recent batting problems then reappeared and four quick wickets fell. It was at that point that a vital stand of 60 between Darren Philpot and Jack Bell saved the day and enabled Diss to reach a reasonable 174-9.
Philpot was out to the last ball of the innings going for his third six after plundering 61 valuable runs.
Old Catton struggled to make much headway against the nagging accuracy of Karl Gooderham 3-24, but once again Willie Ward (3-31) took vital wickets and with a very tense last over in sight, it was left to Steve Dungar to throw down the wicket from short fine leg and win the day for Diss.
