New sports association launched in Hethersett area

A new sports association for Hethersett and the Meltons has been launched.

A well-attended meeting at Park Farm Hotel, Hethersett, brought together representatives from sports as diverse as cricket, badminton, bowls, football, cycle speedway and rugby along with experts in fitness, sports injuries and environmental issues.

'Our aim is to promote sport, fitness and well- being throughout the three villages and also to enhance the standing of the individual clubs whilst lobbying for improved facilities. By working together, Hethersett and the Meltons Sports Association can provide a powerful voice,' said Peter Steward, who is village sports co-ordinator for Active Norfolk for the three villages.

'The power for what we will be trying to achieve in the future comes from the passion and energy those involved have for sport and fitness. We will be working together to promote sport and fitness for all irrespective of age,' he added.

Over the coming months the group will be looking at numerous issues including facilities, grants, encouraging fitness for all ages and supporting the environment.

There is also the possibility of setting up social fitness groups for jogging and walking.

The association will be promoting its work through the use of modern social media including the Hethersett Village website, Facebook and Twitter. It will also oversee an entry into the South Norfolk Village Games which will take place at Framingham Earl in June.
