Old Buckenham travelled to Fakenham looking to continue their fine run - but in the end the only winner was the weather.

The Bucks opted to bowl first after winning the toss and the opening pairing of Meredith and Pentz made the Fakenham openers work hard for their runs.

Pentz finally removed Dunger before Meredith's hard work was rewarded when he had Blackiston caught behind shortly afterwards.

The spin trio of Howes, Austin and Thurley virtually grinded the home side to a halt, with only Monahan-Fairlie looking comfortable at the crease. First of the spinners' six wickets was Coyle, lured into a false shot off Austin and brilliantly caught by Thurley. This was before Howes outfoxed Matthews to trap him lbw and Thurley beat Havers all ends up to have him caught mid-off by Bint.

Down the other end Monahan-Fairlie brought up a well compiled half-century but knowing that his team were well below par on a decent track he started looking for quick runs. Thurley provided him with this opportunity but after a patient innings, Monahan-Fairlie scuffed his shot straight into the hands of Austin, who gleefully accepted.

Fakenham's innings never went anywhere afterwards as the returning Austin removed Dunger and then Earl first ball as the hosts limped to 160-8 off their 50 overs.

Bucks started their chase carefully after a prolonged tea break due to rain, looking to maximise their batting points. The partnership was broken by Blackiston's direct hit run out which saw Perry short of his ground, which came before another of couple of rain breaks.

The new pairing of Bint and Thurley cranked up the gears to try and beat the incoming weather, however Bint fell lbw to White four short of his half-century before Pentz came in all guns blazing to finish the match but found Dunger Senior on the leg-on boundary off Earl.

Sadly the game was called off on completion of the 34th over with the away side 112-3, only needing 48 runs from the next 16 overs. Bucks host table toppers Cromer on Saturday prior to travelling to Acle on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the Carter Cup.

In Two Counties Divivision 9E Stradbroke Vikings (61) lost to Felixstowe III (132) by 71 runs.

With only eight players, the Vikings can be pleased with how they bowled and fielded.
