Diss angler Andrew Mears had the perfect weekend.

He when he came away with two wins and put himself in a good position for the final round of the Tony Raven Memorial, as he sits one point behind the current leader.

His weekend started at Eye Ponds new side in a very tight match where just 5½ oz split the top three places.

Big rudd made up a good portion of his weight, but he also took perch and roach on his way to 8lb 5½oz.

Second, and current leader in the Tony Raven, is Steve Harold. Harold was kept busy with small fish and could not find big rudd, but still ended the day with a very healthy 8lb 1oz.

After not wanting to fish the new side, Bill Davies made good work and found big rudd and roach but a long spell during the middle of the match, where more than likely pike had moved in, meant he let what could have been a comfortable

win slip.

Davies weighed in 8lb, which included rudd to 10oz and roach to 12oz.

Sunday saw Diss Angling Club down at New Waters Farm. Andrew Mears for the second time this season won, and this time from the next peg to where he won last time.

Fishing the method to the end of an island, Mears took mirrors, commons and ghost carp for a win weight of 78lb 150z.

Second went to Robert Peak, who, like Mears, took a good mix of carp on his way to a very good weight of 67lb 5oz. Third went to Jason Rigby with another mixed bag of carp for 65lb 2oz.

For the anglers who fished Tuesday, July 29 match down at Eye Ponds old side, it was a hard-fought match, with weights well below what this fishery can produce.

Top weight went to Simon Thompson with his bag of fish for 8lb 5oz. Second on the day went to Derek Curr when he brought 6lb 150z to the scales. Third was Colin Lea with 5lb 11½ oz.

Anyone looking for something to do this weekend, Diss AC has two outings matches. Limited places are left for Saturday's outing to the very popular Besthorpe Fishery on the canals.

Sunday is down at Hinderclay on the new lake. Anyone wanting to take part should phone Andrew Mears on 07786041177 to book.
