TERRY Rayner put in a fine performance for his Palgrave Star's team as they beat Aslacton in Division One of the Speedy Bat Sports Diss and District Table Tennis League.

TERRY Rayner put in a fine performance for his Palgrave Star's team as they beat Aslacton in Division One of the Speedy Bat Sports Diss and District Table Tennis League.

Rayner won all his games in three legs dropping only 48 points. He was well supported by David Leeder who was also unbeaten although each of his opponents took him the deciding leg.

The Stars are in second position behind Newton Flotman Eagles who beat Shotguns F 6-4 and Palgrave Tornadoes 7-3. Kieran Brady was unbeaten in both matches although Shotguns' Marcus Hammond and Pete Bowman both took him the distance with latter losing 8-11, 10-12, 17-15, 11-9, 10-12.

Elsewhere Shotguns G beat Botesdale Batters 6-4. Nigel Bowen was unbeaten for the Batters and it was left to Paul Sturman/Holly Fleming to beat Bowen/John McGirellis in the doubles to seal victory by 11-7, 11-6, 11-8.

In the Leisure Sport Premier Division Shotguns A moved up to second in the table after beating Roydon 10-0. Andrew Doe was just edged out by Paul Mortlock 11-9, 9-11, 5-11, 11-9, 7-11 and even the doubles went the distance which the shotguns pair won 11-9 in the fifth.

Shotguns D beat a 'two-man' Withersdale 6-4 and Palgrave 7-3 with Jason Evans once again unbeaten in both matches. Palgrave faired better in their match with Shotgun's C drawing 5-5 although they found John Monk too strong.

The final round of handicap matches have been played and Shotguns G will play Palgrave Terriers while Roydon meet Withersdale in the semi-finals.

In group A Palgrave Tornadoes beat Shotguns D 11-7 with Dennis Sore (+15) and Alan Worthington (+14) scoring four legs apiece and Shotguns 'G' beat Pulham 10-8 where Holly Fleming took five legs.

In group B Botesdale beat Palgrave Terriers 10-8 with Nigel Bowen and Bill Christisforth taking four legs each and Aslacton B beat Shotguns C 12-6 with Nigel Barker (+15) and Lionel Coe (+16) winning five legs each.

In group C Palgrave Stars beat Roydon 12-6 where Terry Rayner (+9) was unbeaten. The other group match was not played.

In group D Withersdale beat Thrandeston 10-8 although they found Kev Smith (+12) too strong as was unbeaten and Shotguns F beat Aslacton A 11-7 where Ken Bowman and Marcus Hammond won four legs each.
