Diss host Clacton on Tuesday after attracting a record crowd this season to Friday night's game against Debenham Leisure Centre.

The experiment jointly made by Diss and Debenham Leisure Centre to play the two local derby matches on Friday evenings certainly seems to have been a success this season.

The match at Maitlands in November attracted a record high Ridgeons League crowd for the ground.

The return match last week produced the highest Diss crowd so far this season at 262 and was a close affair with the 1-1 result a fair reflection of play.

Diss had the better of the first half as they attacked with a strong wind at their backs. Craig Ellis was put under pressure at a number of corners from Alan North. One hit the bar and Ellis did well to punch away from under his bar when under pressure from forwards at another. He also did well to keep out a Gavin Norman shot.

Debenham had a fine 30-yard shot from Joel Watkins well palmed away by Michael Hilton.

Diss took the lead with a tremendous strike from Norman in the 41st minute. He received the ball wide on the right-hand side of the penalty area, turned and took a couple of strides forward to a position 15 yards from the goal line before unleashing a right-foot shot into the roof of the net.

Debenham looked likely to equalise in the second half and finally did so. A low shot from John Ince was tipped for a corner as Hilton dived low to his right and pushed the ball onto the foot of the post. From the corner Hilton pushed the ball up into the air under pressure and Gary Pratt headed in from close range.

Ellis made an excellent block to deny Norman when the Diss forward hit a shot from eight

yards out following a good move involving North and Danny Partridge. Norman had a fine game and was named MoM by Russell Harvey of match sponsor S V Harvey and Son (building contractors of Wreningham). Diss thank them for their sponsorship.

Diss top the disciplinary table for Division One matches played so far this season in terms of cautions and send-offs.

Diss Reserves did not play last weekend. They will be away at Walsham-le-Willows Reserves next Saturday (ko 3pm).

There will be a half-term coaching course at Diss Town FC for five to 12s on Tuesday February 12 and Wednesday 13 (10-3). Details: call David Cobb on 07963 518657.
