DISS Angling Club's Andrew Mears went from zero to hero in two days when he came last on Saturday and then finished first in the Ann Draper open match on the following day.

After weighing in just 14oz on the Saturday, Mears drew peg three on Mere's mouth and set about finding the carp on the tip. Fish of 5lb came to the net and Mears ended with 32lb 3oz.

Just behind him was Matt Colette, who fished the waggler and sprayed castor to keep the fish interested. Roach, skimmers and carp followed, giving Collette 31lb 12oz. Third went to Jimmy Ellis with 18lb 2.3oz, who landed a tench of over 4lb.

Saturday was a hard day at Eye for the 11 anglers who turned out.

John Cole made the most of the day's sport, by taking rudd a few inches deep, when he fished against the Norfolk reed in his peg. Cole ended the match with 6lb 7oz. Second on the day went to Karl Hales, who like Cole, had to fish up in the water amongst a batch of lilies to find the rudd.

A switch to the edge brought some perch which gave Hales 5lb 6oz. Third went to George Wilby with 5lb 2oz.

In the mid-week match George Wilby came away with the spoils when he fished peg 10 on the old side at Eye.

Taking a mixed bag of silvers, Wilby made the win comfortable when he brought 10lb 8.5oz to the scales. Second was John Cole with his bag of fish which went 5lb 6oz on the scales. Third was Ben Wilby with 4lb 14.
