Diss Under-16s have won the Eastern Counties Cup.

They beat Shelford 12-5 in the first match then beat Colchester 22-0 to take the trophy.

Against Shelford, a quick scrummage ball with quality handling from the backs saw Karl Cason break the line, offload to Harry Stenton who went over the line for the first try and converting to make the score 7-0 to Diss at half-time.

Strong Shelford defence thwarted numerous try line barrages by Diss, and against the run of play Shelford scored in the corner.

Diss dominated the rest of the second half, with the lineout consistently winning the quality ball through Joe Brock and Michael Hooper and any Shelford attack was snuffed by the back row Sean Groombridge, Michael Hooper and Zak Pizzey.

Repeated pick and drives by the Diss boys sucked in the Shelford defence and created space out wide for Cason to score a superb final try.

Diss continued their dominance against Colchester.

The half backs of Max Wilson and Harry Stenton were able to unleash the Diss backs as a result of continued quality possession by dominant forwards which culminated in Cason scoring the first try, shortly followed by the second by Lee Butler to make it 12-0 at half-time.

Fierce runs by captain Kieran Cooper and Yannick Houghton continued to press home the Diss advantage.

The ball was released to wings Ryan Gardiner and Malick Lock allowing Luke Boynes to score.

Following an injury to Alex Twigge, Oliver Tucker came on and continued to impress, resulting in the final try of the game for Cason.
