A totally ruthless and clinical display from the league leaders highlighted yet again that David Smith's Diss side are now in pole position to achieve automatic promotion.

A speculative kick found Chris Beaird within his own half. A combination of guile and force allowed him to beat three defenders to find Joe Brock in support. Brock sprinted 30 metres to give Diss first blood.

Cantabs, third in the league, responded with a try by Nick Denham. Diss found themselves under extreme pressure, having to defend a series of five-metre scrums and close quarter rucks. Led by Warren Wilby and Ali Abercrombie, the Diss rearguard held firm and following interplay between Giles West and Kami Latu, an opportunity arose for Stephen Hipwell to increase the home side's lead, McClure again converting.

On 20 minutes, a brilliant individual run from Philip LeLievre ripped open the defence, allowing him to score an outstanding individual try. Three minutes later Beaird crossed the whitewash, having supported a clean break from Hipwell.

Cantabs rallied but outstanding defence at the breakdown from Wilby and Will Hudson relieved the pressure setting up a further LeLievre try, following a beautiful break from Sean McClure. With a minute remaining in the half a break from Wilby from within his own half sent Beaird galloping across the line for a 36-5 lead at half-time.

Cantabs responded and pressurised the Diss line. Yet again the Diss defensive structures held firm. Ali Abercrombie and Matt Richards combined on a number of occasions to turn over crucial ball. As the final quarter approached, linking play between LeLievre, West and Wilby sent the Diss captain, Fraser Hall over the line.

With Cantabs tiring Diss asserted complete control. A further individual try from the outstanding Beaird highlighted the dominance of the leaders. Beaird crashed through a number of flailing defenders to score from the halfway line. As the game concluded a McClure break and chip kick was retrieved by Giles West, who scored the final try.

It was a conclusive, ruthless and a dominating performance from a side in top form.
