Anglian Combination – Division 2Sprowston Wanderers 1 Scole 5

Scole got their first three points of the season in Anglian Combination Division Two after a hard-fought battle against Sprowston Wanderers.

Scole rang the changes in this game and moved Solley to centre half and welcomed back Callum Ellis, Max Kirkby from holidays and gave debuts to Tim Courridge, Ben Norton and Shaun Flint. Scole played 18 year old Ben Norton and 19 year old Max Kirkby as their two centre midfielders.

Sprowston were bottom of the table but had been unlucky in a couple of games and started off better than a lethargic looking Scole in the early stages but did not create anything.

Scole started to play football with things being orchestrated by the back four and with Cussons working his socks off up front. However it was Flint who went close first when his long range lob was turned over by the keeper. Soon afterwards, Scole took the lead. The ball was laid out to Luke Ashford on the left who cut inside and put in a low cross which was nodded in at the front post by Ben Cussons.

Scole could have had more at this stage and Cussons hit the post and Flint was denied a couple of times by the Sprowston keeper and Tim Courridge put in some brilliant dead balls which Cussons nearly scored from.

The Scole defence looked solid and whenvever it was breached, keeper King came out as a sweeper superbly.

After half an hour Scole doubled their lead when Cussons beat his man before being dragged down for a penalty. Cussons picked himself up and buried the penalty to make it 2-0 at half time.

Scole came out very, very slowly in the second half and after a couple of near misses, Sprowston got one back with an acrobatic overhead kick after a corner was not cleared.

After a quiet opening period, David Bloomfield now came into the game. He roared past the Sprowston left back before crossing into the box and Cussons missed a simple close range shot. Soon afterwards Bloomfield again got passed his man and was upended in the box but this time Cussons' penalty was high and not very handsome.

With opening results of the season going against them, this was the time when Scole could have panicked but they knuckled down and made it 3-1 when the ball was slid by Ashford into Flint who simply passed the ball past the onrushing keeper for a fine finish.

The Sprowston captain then got sent off for a second yellow card and Scole brought on Robinson, Edwards and Barker for the tiring Ellis, Cussons and Norton and all three subs looked superb.

Edwards made it four after being given the ball by Ashford, the big centre forward smashed the ball past the keeper. Ashford capped a fine individual performance with the last goal when he beat three men before rifling past a stranded Sprowston keeper.

So all in all a good performance against a Sprowston team who will not stay bottom if they hold on to all of their players.

Man of the match could go to any of the back four, Luke Ashford (4 assists! ) or Ben Cussons but for this week goes to Tim Courridge who was absolutely class at left back, both defensively and offensively.

Scole are at home to Hingham athletic this saturday in the Norfolk Junior Cup. Kick off- 2.30pm

Anglian Combination – Division 6

Scole Res 3 - 1 Foulsham Res

Scole reserves stay unbeaten and top of the league!

Scole reserves continued their unbeaten start to the season with a good win against fellow promotion contenders Foulsham reserves.

The reserves once again had a strong squad at their disposal but did not have things all their own way against decent oppostion.

In fact Scole started poorly, struggling to put passes together and it was Foulsham who took the lead.

It didnt take long for Scole to equalise when the Foulsham keeper could not hold on to a shot from Danny Clarke and captain Sean Burden tapped in to make it one all at half time.

With the game all to play for in the second half, Scole upped their game and started to dominate. They took the lead when a good Danny Clarke corner was headed home by goal machine Will Goulding. Scole made the game safe when a good move culminated into a tremendous goal scored by Tom Bell who is looking sharper week by week as he returns from a long term injury.

With the game safe, Scole played out the remainder of the match with ease and retained their position at the top of division 6.

Scole man of the match- Ed Hipperson. Played in an unfamiliar role at right back but was superb
