Scole United 3 Attleborough Town 2

Scole made it four wins on the trot by beating Anglian Combination Division Two rivals fourth-placed Attleborough on Saturday.

The hosts made a fast start and dominated early proceedings.

Several half-chances were missed, but Scole took the lead when Will Goulding played the ball through to Shaun Flint who slipped the ball past the keeper with ease.

Scole then should have had several more, with the Attleborough keeper denying Goulding brilliantly. From a free-kick Goulding then got the ball in the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

However, Scole got the cushion they deserved before half-time with an excellent goal. Bloomfield beat his man down the right and sprinted 30 yards before crossing it first time where the onrushing Flint met the ball first time on the volley for a great goal.

Attleborough came out fast second half and to their credit really upped their game. Scole defended solidly and looked like they had weathered the storm when Attleborough got a cross in and it was slid in off the far post. Attleborough then could have equalised, but Jack Buckmaster made a good save.

Scole looked to have made the game safe when Ashford went on a driving run before laying the ball to Ben Cussons who laid it back for Ashford to finish stylishly with his left foot. Attleborough responded at the other end with a blistering shot that hit the bar while the Attleborough keeper made three tremendous saves to deny Solley, Barker and Ellis.

With seven minutes to go, Scole looked comfortable, but Attleborough got in a deep cross that was expertly tucked home to give them a lifeline in the game. Hipperson had to make a brilliant late block near the goal line, but Scole withstood the pressure to earn another three points in a game they would have thrown away earlier in the season.

Man of the Match: Will Goulding. Won a lot of headers, held the ball up well and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet in his competitive first team game of the season.

In Division Six, Scole United Reserves slipped to second after suffering a surprise 3-1 defeat away to Martham Reserves.
