Conditions at Mackenders were not conducive to open flowing rugby but both teams made a valiant attempt to run the ball. However, Goodge's tactical kicking constantly pegged Wymondham back and he was a constant thorn in the visitors' side.
After losing full-back Chris Beaird with a leg injury Diss went ahead when young prop Peter Bray broke off and went down the undefended short side to score in the corner. Goodge kicked an excellent conversion from wide out. Wymondham were then caught out again at a five-metre lineout and the hosts completed the scoring.
